The ancient stone battlements and towers of the Moorish Castle crowning the rocky, forested peaks above Sintra — **Portugal:** The historic ruins of the Moorish Castle (*Castelo dos Mouros*), which snakes along the high, jagged granite crags overlooking Sintra, just to the north of Lisbon.

Thetford: The towering motte earthwork of Thetford Castle Hill. This steep chalk mound represents one of the largest and most imposing Norman castle mottes surviving anywhere in England.
