Flint waste cores

Small finds - flint waste cores from Thetford Forest

I have found a variety of different types of flint waste cores in Thetford Forest, from 'battered lumps', to very formalised little examples that appear to have been used to make small blades.

The waste core on the left (.120) looks like it has been used in making small blades, and I suspect may be of mesolithic date. The two other waste cores are more common types. I have no idea of date, but they are 'nice' waste cores, and I would hazard to guess probably neolithic in date
