View of Mildenhall Warren Lodge
Warrener 's lodges were fortified medieval buildings, that sat high up in a warren. They housed the warrener and his family, who would care for the coneys and other game, and protect their lord's warren from poachers.
The warrener's lodge at Mildenhall is less well known than the example at Thetford. However, recent conservation work has saved this medieval building just as it was about to crumble away. With recent forest clearance, the ruin can be seen as it was designed to be - high up, overlooking the warren.
