Pepper Hill, Weeting, Norfolk

Late Prehistoric Round Barrow

Pepper Hill actually lays just outside of Thetford Forest (just across the road), about 2 kilometres north of Brandon, west of the A1065 road (OS grid ref.TL787882). Local legend has it that Cromwell put his cannon on it to pepper Weeting Castle - some distance away!

Its actually a late prehistoric round barrow - the last resting place originally of an individual - either cremated or buried, but quite possibly also of later satellite cremations and or inhumations. It probably belongs to the end of the Neolithic - through to the - Bronze Age or maybe later.
