This is a thumbnail gallery of images of Thetford - just photographs and images that I have captured whilst living in Thetford Norfolk. Thetford is a small English town situated in Norfolk, East Anglia, UK. Thetford is located in the south-west corner of the County of Norfolk in England, and at the centre of the Brecks or Brecklands district. Thetford has its origins as an important Anglo Saxon and Anglo-Danish town during the 9th to 11th centuries. Thetford town later suffered centuries of stagnation, until the 1960s, when it grew at a very fast rate as part of a Town Development scheme in partnership with London Council, where thousands of people moved here from overcrowded London until the mid 1970s. Thetford is again showing signs of rapid growth in the 21st century, and has become a popular settlement town with migrants from Portugal, Poland, and Eastern Europe.
The Thetford photographs were taken with Canon Powershot A60 and A85 digital cameras between 2003 and 2006, with some editing using Photoshop. The Thetford photo gallery consists of 49 images, each anchored in their own webpage. Please give time for all these thumbnails to download, or refresh. Please click on any of the thumbnail images to see higher resolution photos, images and descriptions, or simply follow the photo tour.
I have produced this gallery as an online record of Thetford during its development. It provides one view of the town - others may see and want to record it very differently. The population of Thetford was recorded as 21,588 at the last census, but I feel that this figure needs updating, as Thetford is a growth town. Thetford is a unique place - with its very own special history, environment, and mixture of cultures. It is a story still in the making.
