Late Date for Roman Site

Metal detectorist Ian Hinton recovered 64 Roman coins (running up to 408 AD), a bronze finger ring, a domestic blade, and other metalwork from site 32349. These findings suggest the settlement survived into the final days of Roman Britain.

Another Earthwork Destroyed

A D-shaped earthwork enclosure (Norfolk SMR 33607) in Thetford Warren has been severely damaged by forestry restocking operations, which cut trenches through the bank.

The Project so far

By March 2000, the total area surveyed in Thetford Forest reached 164 hectares, with over 51,000 square metres of disturbed surface walked and recorded.

Forest-walk 38 - Oteringhythe

Conducted near the Deserted Medieval Vill of Oteringhythe, this survey produced the highest lithic density recorded to date (18.1 struck flints per 100 m²). Findings confirmed Iron Age settlement, Roman ceramic presence, and medieval agricultural land usage.
